Chicago artist Joseph Ivacic is changing the perception that glass is not just a fine craft material
but a sculptural medium worthy to be recognized as fine art. He first explored this material at
University of Illinois in the late 1990’s and less than 10 years later was showing at international
art fairs. Ivacic uses other materials but tends to be drawn back to glass for its vast
characteristics as his primary medium. Of his many accomplishments from awards to
residencies and being part of important public and private collections, as well as being included
in a number of museum exhibitions. Joseph was originally drawn to technical characteristic of
glass and how it can be shaped, but is now is more interested in its fragile nature and how it
helps convey his own brand of art activism.
